Diepens

Our Diepen ancestors boarded the Arnold Boeninger in Rotterdam and
arrived in New York on June 11, 1867

Pieter and Martje Diepen’s names were changed at Ellis Island, becoming Peter and Mary Deapen, perhaps without their understanding or consent. My blog will examine the family they left behind in the province of Groningen, Netherlands.

Generations of Diepens lived and worked on traditional flat-bottomed freight barges called tjalk(singular), tjalken (plural) like this one.
